Lock the Gate Hits the Airwaves

The Lock the Gate Alliance will start a radio advertising campaign today (Saturday 24th ) targeting rural, regional and metropolitan areas of Queensland in the lead up to the State Election.

“We’re launching radio ads because the impact of coal and gas mining on country Queensland and the threat to Brisbane’s water supply are defining issues of this election," said Lock the Gate's President Drew Hutton.

"We are saying to our fellow Queenslanders, ‘Let’s hold this government and all politicians to account and make sure they know we want clean food and water, and a fair go for all communities'.

“Coal and gas mining projects are still ramping up in rural Queensland, including in the Galilee Basin, the Darling Downs and the Central Highlands.

"It’s a litmus test for all politicians in this election, whether they are willing to restore balance and keep the mining industry in check.

“People are losing water and family farms, they’re breathing pollution and having their basic rights plundered for mining.

"They should vote for change, or otherwise they can expect more of the same."

The ads focus on the impact of open cut coal mining on the little town of Acland on the Darling Downs and the headline grabbing donations scandal that has influenced the way mining decisions are being made.
