Q: Would you like to send a message to Wendy?
    A: Dear Wendy,
Congratulations on your environment award. All Australians owe you a debt of gratitude, even if a minoriy are not yet aware. As a 78 year old city dweller, I further appreciate your courageous and long term commitment to saving our agricultural land so that we can all eat healthily. As an eighteen year old conscript in the army, I first became acquainted with the beauty of the Hunter valley through which I had only travelled on the train before to holiday with cousins in the railways at Werris Creek.
As a high school history teacher I also had an historical understanding of the Hunter region and the links between settlement, coal mining and agriculture.
In the sixties, I had the good fortune to visit the valley again with friends who took me to meet the Tulloch family and thus, convinced of the quality of Hunter wine after town years drinking French wine in Europe, I took home wines from the wonderful vintages of 1965 & 1966. After that, I joined The Wine Society which had its origins in the Hunter with Max Lake and his winery Lake’s Folly. So now, the Hunter is personally dear to me and now you understand how grateful I am to you for your actions which I fervently hope will save this land for the future generations.

Q: Would you like to send a message to Wendy?
A: Exceptionally well done! It is a pity that we still have to fight against the coal mining lobbies and the politicians in their pockets in cases such as Aldanis’ Carmichael mine in Queensland which will destroy the Great Barrier Reef.

Q: Would you like to send a message to Wendy?
A: Sincere congratulations, Wendy. You deserve all the occolades you receive. It’s astonishing that Australia’s politicians are so beholden to these multinational polluters. I am currently in the UK and everywhere I go there is evidence of attempts, and real success, in caring for and protecting the environment. However, the British shouldn’t be complacent, arable land is still being sold off here to make way for so called ‘development’ in order to give the ‘jobs’ mantra. You should be very proud of your achievement, verynproud if you.

A: Dear Wendy thank you from Dubbo. Your leadership since 1990 inspires us today to continue fighting the planned 850 CSG wells in the Pilliga Forest threatening the Great Artesian Basin and to fight proposed new coal mines at Breeza on the Liverpool Plains – your speech set the tone for strong community opposition to greedy mining companies intent on destroying our natural resources for short term profit

Q: Would you like to send a message to Wendy?
    A: Dear Mrs Bowman
We were so delighted to have received the news of and watched your acceptance speech for such a well deserved award.

We send these congratulatory wishes to you from a family who have been involved in the land and horticulture for several generations.

We thank you and cheer you for your actions in defending your property, resisting the destruction of our rural way of life in Australia
and for your dedication and belief in the cause you are so passionate about.

If only there was some way that we, who also support these causes, could do more to achieve the preservation of
our lifestyle and the agriculture passed on to us by our forebears.

Your contribution to these causes has been amazing and greatly appreciated by those of us who care.

    We salute you.

Q: Would you like to send a message to Wendy?
    A: Dear Wendy,
When I read about your award I looked for your email address as I thought I might still have it, then the opportunity to congratulate you presented itself via Lock the Gate (my mother sent me the link).
We came to you re Bickham in 2000/2001 and you gave us lots of sage advice and as you know ultimately our near decade long campaign to stop an open cut mine on what was once part of our family property was successful. How wonderful for you to receive recognition on the world stage because without you the beautiful Hunter Valley would be a much smellier, dirtier, uglier place than it is. What you have done for all of us is heroic.
    Kind regards,
    Michaela Malone.

Q: Would you like to send a message to Wendy?
A: Hullo Wendy. I applaud you! Thank you so much for your courage and strength to say no to the coal miners. We have been warned by the scientists that the remaining fossil fuel, especially coal, must stay in the ground if we are to avoid more detrimental climate change and global warming. You have been instrumental in the fight to lock up this coal. On behalf of future generations, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
