A: Congratulations Wendy on a very well deserved prize. I am so grateful that there are courageous people out there who will not be intimidated by those who think they have the right to do what they want to whoever they want. You are an inspiration to us all. Thank you , thank you. Stay strong and keep up the good work you are an incredible example for us all who care for the environment and the only planet we have. I am appalled that your winning of this prestigious prize was not plastered all over all the media for all to see. Again thank you so much for having the courage of your convictions.

A: Hi Wendy, I’m a single mum with a 7 yr old boy. I used to have a corporate job but since my son was born all I want to do is save our environment and fight for clean food and water. When I saw your speech , which is the first time I ever heard of you (sorry!), I was so humbled, and inspired, and grateful. And a little dream came to me that maybe that could be me one day when I am your age. It brought me to tears. Thank you.

Q: Would you like to send a message to Wendy?
    A: Hi Wendy,

Congratulations on receiving the Goldnman Environmental Prize Win! I am very proud of your efforts in fighting the
Mining Company and saving an integral part of Australia’s waterways.

However we are in a constant battle with Mining Companies and Government who are rentless in destroying the
environment and communities and local businesses in order to gain profit. When will it ever end?

My concern is if they continue Mining as they do without prior consultation with the Community and Businesses we
wont have an Environment and hence we will suffer as a consequence.

A few years ago I spoke to a local farmer from the Hunter Valley Region who had a farm near the Nepean River,
whilst conducting a telephone survey. He was very distraught and upset about the Coal Mining Company who
were mining for coal seam gas mining. He mentioned to me the impact of what destruction it had on the Nepean
River. He stated he saw bubbling water come up from beneath the water and stated his land dam and been left
bone dry and there were fissure cracks beneath the ground he walked on which made it unstable and dangerous
for him and his livestock. After listening to his complaints I advised him to go and see a Lawyer to take on the
Mining Company. This poor man was crying and it is something I will never forget, hence why I support
Lock The Gate as I am disgusted in what they are doing to this Country and to the communities who
    reside in rural areas.

Much to my displeasure I happened to interview the same region again and spoke to a woman who stated
that there was a Farmer in their region who ended up taking his life and committed Suicide because he felt
powerless against the Greedy Mining Company who wanted to push him off his land to get access to the
    water.

I often wonder if it was that Farmer I spoke to and if it was I feel a deep sadness that we will all be doomed
if we dont speak up and Australia will become a toxic wasteland. Thanking you for being courageous and
    standing up to the Bullies!!!

I feel if we are to win this war there needs to be independant Environmental Assessors who are not employed
by Mining Companies or Govt Bodies as they cant be trusted. There also needs to be more Education promoted
in Schools and Universities to disuade people from persuing such a destructive Work Career that will cause much
pain and suffering to the Environment and to Communities.

Thanking you Kindly for all of your undivided devotion and work to save our Environment & Animals.

    Yours Sincerely,

    GINA TEDESCHI

Q: Would you like to send a message to Wendy?
    A: Hello Wendy,
Your story is wonderfully heart warming and inspiring. Thank you for having the courage and conviction to stand up to the coal industry, and setting an example to other landowners in the valley about how they can stop the permanent destruction of their productive farms and beautiful landscape, creeks, rivers and aquifers.

Huge congratulations on your Goldman Prize. It is a well deserved recognition of your role in helping to save what is left of the Hunter Valley, and puts the destruction of the Valley in focus for so many thousands of other people.

Your guts and passion inspires us all to stand up to such appalling injustice.

Love & Best Wishes from the Mountain Districts Association on Mangrove Mountain

A: Heartfelt thanks for your courage and perseverance. Mining and fracking are the greatest threats to our food self-sufficiency in Australia and the greatest threat to the looming climate disaster. As we can’t seem to elect a government in this country that actually works for the people and not for the corporate sector, we rely on you and your brave collaborators to defend our land. Your award is absolutely well deserved.

Q: Would you like to send a message to Wendy?
A: Congratulations Wendy on your final success, in saving your farm and the region from disasterous, ugly and incredibly environmentally destructive coal mine. We need to constantly fight to keep what should rightfully be ours. The health and sustainability of our land, our water, our air, our own health, our wildlife and our ability to grow untarnished foods is what is at stake constantly and increasingly. These should all be things that our government will endeavor to protect for us, instead of work against us . You have won this battle and hopefully this win will help stem the tide of upcoming battles. Thank you for all you have done.
    Best Wishes

    A: Hi Wendy,

Well done you!!! So proud that one Australian can fight and win against big corporate greed. You deserve the award but more than this you deserve the recognition of your efforts from every Australian. You have given us a reason to carry on the fight, you prove that every effort is worthwhile and nothing is wasted in the quest for justice. Your humble acceptance and your acknowledgement of all who helped is beautiful, and the simple wisdom that ‘water is life and without it there is no life’ says it all. <3
