I rang Josh Frydenberg’s office on 11/9/20. I gave my name and suburb and spoke with one of the assistants. I said that I was concerned that all the so called ‘gas led recovery’ would do is leave a bunch of ‘stranded assets’ Did the Treasurer want to preside over such an economic disaster? Why not push gas companies to switch out of exporting gas and supply the domestic market to speed the transition out of coal, instead of throwing good money after bad with new (fossil fuel) gas investment? That transition was already happening driven by the unprecedented level of investment in renewable energy by the private sector. The assistant said my feedback ‘was really good’ and undertook to pass it on to the Treasurer’s office.

    Stop the Gas Attack

The Australian Government has announced plans to hand over millions of taxpayer dollars to the gas industry for big new fracking gas pipelines and gas infrastructure. This commitment follows relentless pressure from the National Covid Commission and their fossil fuel industry members.

Our Federal decision makers need to hear from you on this. We can’t have them getting all their advice from the gas industry, and miss out on hearing your voice.

Will you call or email your MP right now?

How do I contact my federal Member of Parliament? Just follow this Link to the Parliament of Australia website – enter your postcode to be taken to your lower house MP. You will find an email address and a phone number for your MP.

Here are some ideas of what you can to say in your email/call:

-I’m concerned the Federal Government is about to give handouts of taxpayer money to the gas industry.

-The Australian public should NOT be paying for gas industry pipelines, infrastructure or buying gas directly from new fracking gasfields. The Queensland Hunter Gas Pipeline, the NT Beetaloo Fracking Pipeline and Bowen Basin pipeline would put farmers and Traditional Owners directly at risk.

-Gas is a bad investment. Our money shouldn’t prop up the gas industry. It puts farmers and regional communities in the firing line for new gasfields and fracking.

-We can create more jobs and opportunities if we support manufacturing and agribusiness to electrify and use plentiful renewable energy. We can switch away from gas.

-The Government could help homes and small businesses install renewables, get energy efficient, and invest in storage. We don’t need more gas and fracking gasfields.

    Tips for calling:

    • Call the Electorate Office number - this should take you through to a staff member.
    • When you call, remember to be polite, friendly and calm. You will probably speak to a staffer, so just ask them to take down your message.
    • Introduce yourself and mention you live in your MP's electorate.

Please call and email the Treasurer Josh Frydenburg and let him know how you feel too

Thanks for reminding our government to represent all of our interests, not just the gas industry.

    Can you chip in?

The Federal Government wants to strip away the rights of communities to object to dangerous mining projects by ripping up our basic legal rights and putting national assets like the Liverpool Plains and Great Barrier Reef at risk.

But Alan Jones has put the Government on notice, and joined us to demand they take this divisive plan off the table.  Can you chip in get this TV Ad played on Sky News next week and send the Federal Parliament a message they can't ignore?

With your help we can make sure each and every Federal politician hears the powerful voice of Alan Jones blaring through their parliamentary offices this coming week, as they return for the first time after the Parliamentary break.

By chipping in now, you will be asking them directly to stand up for communities and defend Australia from reckless coal and gas mining giants who are putting our nation at risk.  All we're asking for is a fair go, and the basic right to be heard in a court of law.

    Our common home

Bishops, wine-makers, livestock producers and conservationists have penned a joint letter to NSW Premier Mike Baird calling on him to protect our common home from a coal mining industry that is out of control.  You can read the full text of the joint letter here

Our common home, our farmland, rivers, villages and bushland are being torn up or ruined for coal mining. How long are coal affected communities expected to wait for the Government to do something to fix up coal mining?

We've put an ad in Mike Baird's local paper, the Manly Daily, and want all of you to give him a call and add your voice to the push to reform coal mining and save our communities, landscapes and rural industries. Can you call him?
