Better than Beetaloo - How the NT can deliver energy security this decade without fracking

A new report by Springmount Advisory has interrogated the gas off-take deals struck by the Northern Territory Government with fracking companies.  The analysis suggests that just one of the deals could cost Territorians $1 billion in total - to pay for gas they don't need and can't afford.

The research concludes that the deal is a terrible outcome for NT taxpayers that effectively abandons the NT’s 50% renewable energy target by 2030, and undermines the commercial position of other energy providers in the Northern Territory.

Rather than providing billions in support to foreign-owned gas companies, the report concludes the NT Government should be supporting households and businesses to install solar and storage, developing new large-scale renewable energy and grid connected storage projects in the Territory, and securing gas supply from existing conventional gas producers like Central Petroleum and gas exporters like INPEX.
