BHP will be entertaining their shareholders at their Annual General Meeting on October 30th, held this year in Brisbane at the Royal International Convention Centre, and trying to sell their ‘Climate Transition Action Plan.’ BHP wants to hide the fact that they want to expand some of Queensland’s biggest and dirtiest coal mines - Caval Ridge, Peak Downs and Saraji and keep mining out until the 2090s! BHP wants to lock in coal as part of the steel making process, even though there are mature and viable alternatives that are currently being used.
When it comes to a safe climate, the science is clear - we can’t afford to keep burning coal. Australia must transition to green steel alternatives and end our reliance on coal now, so we’ll be hosting a protest outside the BHP AGM, to build awareness amongst investors and shareholders that BHP is dodgy on climate!
Will you join us on October 30 to call out BHP’s greenwashing and give a big thumbs down to their massive coal expansion plans?
PS. We're also having a fun crafternoon on Monday 28th October, 2-6pm, to make some eye-catching and impactful placards, banners and props for the AGM action! Drop in anytime throughout the crafternoon, and stay for as long as you like! More details and RSVP info to come, so stay tuned!
