Message the Premier - Acland Decision

Today, Acland farmers won the first ever community challenge against a coal project, the Acland Stage 3 expansion on the Darling Downs, in the High Court of Australia.

It’s a historic moment.

But it doesn’t mean the project is permanently beaten.  It means that it will now be sent back to the Queensland Land Court for a fresh review of the entire merits of the project.

The Premier has done the right thing, standing up to New Acland Coal and their advertising campaign, and waiting for the High Court decision.

Let’s thank her for that, and ask her to now finally end the uncertainty and negotiate the withdrawal of the mining project, whilst stepping in to support workers and the local community.

Leave a message for the Premier and Deputy Premier in the form at the bottom of this page and we’ll print them all out and present them with it.

Please thank them for what they have done so far to respect the High Court, but explain the effect on the local community has been too great and a restructuring package for workers and withdrawal of the project is needed.  The Darling Downs foodbowl is no place for a coal mine.

Change is opportunity, don’t let it pass, instigate a clean future initiative. Show Queensland that the Government is not shackled to the fossil fuel industry.

Well done Premier. Food will be more important in the future than coal. With climate change driving weather conditions as it is now, the latest report suggests that our continent could receive 40% less rainfall in the coming years if no action occurs immediately. This of course would mean less food production and great shortages such as we only see in wartime. Can you imagine food rationing in peacetime?

Thank you so much for waiting for the High Court decision – absolutely the right thing to do. I hope now that jobs in clean energy can be provided for those working in the mine. Such jobs would have a future guaranteed, as opposed to a future in coal, which is rapidly losing its markets and has no future.

Thanks you for upholding the wellbeing of the people of Queensland and not kowtowing to the big money polluters.

    Dear Premier,

I am please with the outcome for the Acland farmers but the workers in the mine should be retrained or relocated but not abandoned.

    Thankyou!

Prime farming land should never be mined. Gas and coal are last century, the future is hydrogen produced from solar.

    Great Job Premier,

It’s time to focus on our grandchildren’s future not the exploiters of nature! Short term returns long term damage to our biosphere.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE FOR THE SAKE OF HUMAN KIND

PROTECT OUR LAND, WATER AND LIFE FROM COAL MINES

Now is the time to back the farmers and the community of Acland and end the uncertainty – it’s time to negotiate a withdrawal of the mine project, deliver a restructure package for workers and support new jobs in agriculture and renewable energy.

SUPPORT FARMERS AND COMMUNITIES WHO GIVE US HEALTHY FOOD AND CLEAN WATER SO WE CAN LIVE 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

    Listen to the people please.

    People power is very important.

Look to food security not mining revenue. We want water security for our population. Dont give water to mining companies.

    Use renewables

Good decision to leave prime farming land forever. The future starts now. All land development decisions should consider the agricultural class of the land.

Please stop this coal expansion now, and set out a clear plan for transition to renewables.

    Dear Premier

The farmers of Acland have fought this project tooth and nail for years. Please give them the peace of mind and certainty they deserve to carry on farming their land into the future. The Darling Downs should be protected for farming, not dug up for coal. The future for jobs in Queensland is in sustainable agriculture and renewables.

    Thank you

    Boudicca
