Community Coal Dust Report Card

Join us to hear the results of a recent air pollution study funded and coordinated by Hunter community groups.

Many Hunter residents are asking:
* Just how bad is our air?
* Is there a higher concentration of particle pollution close to coal trains and stockpiles?
* Are pollution levels above the national standard set to protect human health?
* How far from the coal corridor do elevated levels of pollution extend?
* How would the proposed fourth coal terminal (T4) worsen air pollution?

A new community coal dust report card is soon to be launched. The report presents the results of air pollution monitoring at 12 locations in Newcastle, Maitland and the Lower Hunter between 5 December 2012 and 5 January 2013. Industry-standard particle pollution monitors were located in houses between 50 and 500 metres from the coal train corridor and coal stockpiles. The results have been analysed by independent experts.
