FARMS OR COALMINES?
WHAT: You are invited to join us for a delicious afternoon tea and a forum on the economics and legacy of coal and coal seam gas mining on our agricultural lands.
WHEN: Sunday 23rd October at 2pm
WHERE: Greenwich Community Hall, 46-48 Greenwich Rd, Greenwich
NSW State Governments have continued to approve huge open cut coalmines on our farmland despite strong opposition from farmers and citizens. Victoria has banned fracking for coal seam gas but NSW is now offering new exploration licences to the CSG sector.
There is rising concern that we need to protect our farmland for farming so that we have access to fresh locally grown food.
What are the real economic benefits of coal mining and what will be coal's legacy for our land and our farming communities?
Our presenters are experts in coal, energy &/or advocacy for locally grown food:
* Tim Buckley - Director of Energy Finance Studies, Australasia, The Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis.
* Jayne Travers-Drapes - Founder Harvest Hub a social enterprise providing seasonal produce to local communities across Sydney.
* George Woods - Environmentalist and NSW Coordinator forLock the Gate, a national coalition uniting people to protect our land, water and communities from unsafe mining.
