Last week, after years of community pressure, the Resources Minister informed Fox Resources that he intends to reject their mineral development licence (MDL) for coal exploration in the Bundaberg region because the proposal is “not in the public interest”.
This decision highlights the urgent need for the government to fix the Regional Planning Interest Act to truly protect agricultural land, cultural heritage, environmental values and communities.
