Where would you rather see our taxpayer money invested?

The Government wants to frack, but what does Australia want?

We’ve put together a letter you can sign below and add your ideas for the Federal Government on what they could do with our hard-earned tax dollars.

Please add your name and give us your ideas for where you’d rather see your tax dollars spent.

To Federal Parliamentarians, Ministers, Departments,

We are alarmed and disappointed to see the Federal Government now rolling out a suite of actions to prop up expensive and dangerous gas fracking across Australia without any proper public accountability.

As voters and concerned Australians, we ask that you hear our message - do not spend our money on gas fracking projects and big new gas pipelines.

Farmlands, water resources and the climate can’t afford to keep propping up polluting gas.

It’s time for Australia to grow stronger and tool up to embrace cleaner energy and storage.

There are a multitude of ways the Government could take a smarter approach to the Covid recovery. The Australian community has many ideas on how we can boost agriculture, tourism, First Nations opportunities, community health and disaster relief.

We know we can create jobs by genuinely supporting diverse Australian businesses, not throwing our money at the gas fracking industry.

We see huge opportunities to help Australia to get off polluting and expensive gas into the future, to modernise our power and heating and to save on gas and energy bills.

I ask that you oppose the measures being rolled out to fast-track gas fracking, including the ill-considered and secretive National Gas Infrastructure Plan, and take on board our ideas for how the money could be better spent.

Yours sincerely,

Please add some comments.

What would you rather see money spent on?

Here are some ideas:

Helping Australian businesses get off gas
Funding community projects in your neighbourhood
Land stewardship programs
Supporting First Nations organisations and businesses working on country
Renewable energy projects and battery storage
Disaster relief

Please put any funding to the planning and projects to achieve the transition to clean energy, including job creation, retraining and community support during transition.

Australia should be a powerhouse of renewable energy. There is no future in gas. The money to subsidise fossil fuel companies would be better spent helping business get off gas, supporting renewable energy projects and battery storage, and disaster relief.

How dare the government spend taxpayer dollars on a gas-led disaster when it’s so clear we need a swift transition away from gas and coal. Our dollars should be supporting renewable projects and battery storage for a fair dinkum economic recovery that also supports environmental recovery

This is absolutely crazy! Support renewables and support future generations! We could be first in the world but we are lagging way behind thanks to the emphasis on fossil fuels.

Public money should be being spent on creating a more sustainable future for our children and the planet, not destroying it by continuing our reliance on fossil fuels.

With the catastrophic disasters experience – fires and now major flooding in NSW and QLD – our money will be needed for recovery and NOT fracking which will only exacerbate the delicate balance of our planet

There is numerous ways this money could be better spent!! Just please stop funding fossil fuel developments which are killing ours, and the rest of life on Earth’s chance of survival into the future!

I would like to see more money spent to transition away from fossil fuels. I don’t believe fracking should happen EVER. Read the Million Jobs Plan. It is full of ideas that need to be implemented NOW.

Fracking is destroying our land, taxpayers money should be spent on helping farmer’s practice sustainable long-term solutions. Peter Andrews has a proven long-term solution that should be seriously considered.

Australia needs you to do your job and represent OUR interests, not the fossil fuel industry! We need strong transition to renewables right now! We need jobs to help our environment and to mitigate climate change effects.

It makes me so sad (and mad) that governments continue to put the natural world at risk. Our most important assets are our water and soil.
