The Government wants to frack, but what does Australia want?

We’ve put together a letter you can sign below and add your ideas for the Federal Government on what they could do with our hard-earned tax dollars.

To Federal Parliamentarians, Ministers, Departments,

We are alarmed and disappointed to see the Federal Government now rolling out a suite of actions to prop up expensive and dangerous gas fracking across Australia without any proper public accountability.

As voters and concerned Australians, we ask that you hear our message - do not spend our money on gas fracking projects and big new gas pipelines.

Farmlands, water resources and the climate can’t afford to keep propping up polluting gas.

It’s time for Australia to grow stronger and tool up to embrace cleaner energy and storage.

There are a multitude of ways the Government could take a smarter approach to the Covid recovery. The Australian community has many ideas on how we can boost agriculture, tourism, First Nations opportunities, community health and disaster relief.

We know we can create jobs by genuinely supporting diverse Australian businesses, not throwing our money at the gas fracking industry.

We see huge opportunities to help Australia to get off polluting and expensive gas into the future, to modernise our power and heating and to save on gas and energy bills.

I ask that you oppose the measures being rolled out to fast-track gas fracking, including the ill-considered and secretive National Gas Infrastructure Plan, and take on board our ideas for how the money could be better spent.

Please support green energy projects rather than fossil fuels.

Fossil fuel industries have a long track record of environmentally destructive activities and science is telling us that we need to address the global warming urgently.

Apart form local environmental impacts and the threat to our water resources, I note concerns about fugitive methane gas emmissions related to fracking and that, while burning gas releases less CO2 than burning coal, gas cannot be considered a clean fuel.

I believe that government money would be better spent supporting things such as:

Carbon capture and storage, especially using tree planting and kelp farming;

Development of a green hydrogen industry, as proposed by the former Chief Scientist.

Encouraging the replacement of the nations vehicle fleet with electric vehicles

Household and local area battery storage of clean energy.

I believe that much more could be done, must be done, to reduce the nation’s CO2 emissions and that the government must take a leading role.

Gas and fracking are not the way to a sustainable future. The economy of most of the world’s nations is and has been moving to renewables, even conservative governments eg: UK. Please do not let us Australians linger behind everyone.

STOP Fracking!

Australia needs to build a strong, clean, environmental responsible manufacturing stream in order to rely less on imports

We also need recycling solutions that actually work and that stop putting strain on our planet

Helping businesses get off gas, renewable energy projects and battery storage, supporting First Nations Organizations and businesses working on country, a complete ban on logging of all native forests, incentives for the uptake up of electric cars, including the roll out of recharging stations. On a daily basis I am appalled at the lack of attention to anything positive regarding climate change, global warming or the environment generally. I despair at the stupidity and neglect demonstrated by the Scott Morrison Government at all levels. Totally derelict in my opinion. No for sight, no creativity no sense whatsoever.

We need to follow the lead of EU countries & China (and the ACT and SA) to start building renewable energy projects focusing on large scale solar farms and batteries, smart trams, electric trucks and buses and fleets of electric government vehicles and renewable energy based hydrogen production. Develop plans to transition all workers in fossil fuel based industries to alternative employment as a major priority! And develop a plan and start phasing out fossil fuels immediately If our climate continues to warm we will all suffer immensely …

Stop exporting our gas overseas! Keep at least 25-30% for domestic use as is done in other countries eg Canada. Start investing more renewable energy projects.

Believe in climate change, because it is real!!

Assist the average Australian more with disaster relief.

Stop corporations cutting down native forests, our struggling native wildlife need trees to survive!!!

‘Tis unfortunate the reason most if not all politicians get to parliament !! It’s only for the money they will pocket !!!
For over FORTY YEARS , i voted to expect the Government to LOOK after and improve Australia ,,,,, I am still waiting !!!
EACH and EVERY Person receiving financial REWARDS from the Commonwealth should annually file a report on their production ; it seems I will be receiving many " post -it " notes partially filled !
So many disastrous attempted projects ,,,, no simple prior investigation , NO concern for the failed outcome ,,

We need our government to start taking action for Climate Change and listen to the overwhelming evidence about gas, fracking and environmental and health effects. The influence and power of fossil fuel companies over our government must stop!

I ask that you please consider some of the numerous alternative ideas that have been suggested by organisations such as Clean State in WA that are sustainable and economically viable. No fracking!

Why not spend money on more energy storage systems, including the development of hydrogen production using electrolysis?

Given that the latest disasters including the black summer bushfires of 2019-2020 and the floods this autumn, the toll on wildlife habitat and the wildlife it supported, in order to reduce the severity of extinctions, money should be spent on restoring habitat and supporting surviving wildlife. This should become a priority along with the increasingly urgent reduction of emissions in order to reduce global warming.

Financing more gas projects locks us into the past with high fossil fuel emissions.

We need support for projects that are appropriate for a society moving to net zero carbon emissions or better.
