Right now, gassy coal mines in the Illawarra are quietly leaking vast amounts of methane, one of the most dangerous climate pollutants. Even worse, these emissions are likely being significantly underreported.
This means the Illawarra plays a pivotal role in determining whether NSW meets its climate targets or causes them to fall further behind.
So come to this expert forum Illawarra Coal Mine Methane and the Climate Crisis and hear from experts on this topic including:
- Chris Wright, Climate Strategy Advisor, Ember
- Dr Deidre Stuart, Secretary, Protect Our Water Catchment Inc.
- Anne-Louise Knight, Lead Analyst, Australian Coal, Institute for Energy Economics & Financial Analysis (by video)
The event will be MC’d by Kaye Osborn, Protect Our Water Alliance, and will include a panel discussion hosted by Lock the Gate's NSW Coordinator, Nic Clyde.
Doors open 6:30 PM for a 7:00 PM start. Concludes at 8:30 PM - followed by refreshments. This is a free event but registration is required and please bring photo ID for Club entry.
