Tell Environment Minister Murray Watt to reject BHP’s monster new coal mine!

Environment Minister Murray Watt recently told ABC Radio that “these days, it’s very rare for a new coal project to be approved.”

We believe new coal mines should never be approved - they have a devastating impact on our water, climate and wildlife.

Let’s hold Minister Watt to his words - he must not approve BHP’s mega-coal mine!

BHP is only one step away from being able to start up yet another coal mine in central Queensland.  BHP’s planned Saraji East will mine 110 million tonnes of coal over the next 20 years, at a time when the world must be rapidly reducing, not increasing, coal production.

The Saraji Mine will destroy koala and greater glider habitat, and put more pressure on Queensland’s precious water resources.

By rejecting BHP’s Saraji East Coal Mine, Senator Watt could:

  •       protect 1,160 hectares of koala habitat and 748 hectares of greater glider habitat,
  •       leave 33 billion litres of water in the environment where it belongs, and
  •       avoid at least 328 million tonnes of carbon pollution.
