Origin Energy are lining up to frack the Northern Territory this year, and in the firing line are some magical places, including recharge zones of Mataranka Hot Springs.
Traditional Owners have told us that Origin Energy has ignored their concerns about fracking and not properly laid out the risks involved.Fracking the NT would be a disaster for the landscape, communities and waterways. Plus it would unleash massive emissions of methane, a greenhouse gas, and fuel global warming.
We need to build a powerful movement of people willing to spread the word and take on Origin at every level, from their head offices to their board rooms.6,181 signatures
I will stand up and be a part of the massive people-powered movement to stop Origin Energy’s plans to frack the Territory.

The Adani mine puts our precious water resources at risk - rivers, springs and groundwater.
Can you chip in to protect our water from this dangerous mine?
With your support we can:
- Run water forums in regional areas
- Support graziers to have their voices heard
- Get more expert advice about the impacts of the mine
- Build the campaign to cancel Adani's water licences.
Just $25 today can make a huge difference. Don't let Adani hang Queensland out to dry.

Eleven new proposed coal mines in NSW are a massive threat. They will use more water, damage more land and even emit more carbon dioxide than the Adani mega-mine.
Together, the amount of water these mines will use is 23 billion litres per year at their peak. That's more than 9,000 Olympic swimming pools of water. Our water is our lifeblood, and we can't afford to put it at risk. Can you chip in to stop key mine projects before it is too late?
It's not just our water at risk. The mines will destroy farms and forests, damaging a vast area of land greater than the entire city of Newcastle. The massive carbon emissions will put our climate at risk, and threaten Australia with more severe bushfires and heat waves.

Getting involved in a campaign to protect your local community from coal and gas developments is a new experience for many people. The good news is that you are not flying blind – there’s information about the kinds of processes that help.
Scroll down for links to our downloadable tip-sheets.
To make a difference it helps to get people together and form an Action Group - a community group that rolls up their sleeves and pitch in for creative grass-roots work. Local action groups are the heart of the Lock the Gate movement. They are the people working hard across the country to get better protections for the places they live in and love. Action Groups are where we learn, form new friendships, and experience the power of collaboration.
Action Groups are different from the community clubs that people may be used to. They need to be nimble and responsive, so that the work turns over quickly in the often fast-moving campaign.
Our social movement gives birth to many groups. Some thrive, some become rigid, and some groups fade away. If we can learn together how to keep our groups dynamic, our campaign will grow stronger. The key is to continually ask ourselves questions like ‘How could we involve more people? or ‘What did we learn from doing the meeting that way?’ This process of review is called Action Learning. When we do it well, our movement has enormous adaptive power and creativity.
Lock the Gate has developed a series of downloadable Tip Sheets with a range of information to help you build the campaign in your local area, including how to start an action group, and how to keep your group functioning effectively. Please check out the tip sheets below and share them with your group for general discussion.

Sharon Kinnison wants to volunteer 2015-11-05 16:42:26 +1100
At Lock the Gate, we depend on the help of our passionate and dedicated volunteers. Without the people who generously contribute their time, skills and energy to support our work we would not be able to achieve our mission to protect our common heritage - our land, water and communities - from unsafe or inappropriate mining for coal seam gas and other fossil fuels.
Lock the Gate volunteers enjoy the fulfilment that comes from making a vital difference to the communities they live in. It is also a great way to gain experience, develop new skills, meet new people and get involved in the movement.
If you tick the 'other' box, please be sure to let us know in the comments section what you'd like to help out with! Please also tell us about any expertise and specific skills you have.

The Federal Government wants to strip away the rights of communities to object to dangerous mining projects by ripping up our basic legal rights and putting national assets like the Liverpool Plains and Great Barrier Reef at risk.
But Alan Jones has put the Government on notice, and joined us to demand they take this divisive plan off the table. Can you chip in get this TV Ad played on Sky News next week and send the Federal Parliament a message they can't ignore?

Bishops, wine-makers, livestock producers and conservationists have penned a joint letter to NSW Premier Mike Baird calling on him to protect our common home from a coal mining industry that is out of control. You can read the full text of the joint letter here
Our common home, our farmland, rivers, villages and bushland are being torn up or ruined for coal mining. How long are coal affected communities expected to wait for the Government to do something to fix up coal mining?
We've put an ad in Mike Baird's local paper, the Manly Daily, and want all of you to give him a call and add your voice to the push to reform coal mining and save our communities, landscapes and rural industries. Can you call him?
