Shorten’s Wild Fracking Spree – Call Labor MP's

Bill Shorten announced this week he’ll spend $1.5 billion of public money on pipelines to open northern Australia up to fracking and gas.

It’s a disastrous move that would see our hard earned taxpayer dollars being handed to multinational gas giants, putting our water and our climate at risk.

Can you call Shorten and other key Labor MP's and tell them what a terrible move this is?

I’m calling today because I saw the news that Labor have announced funding for gas pipelines that will enable dangerous gasfields in the Northern Territory and North Qld.
Fracking poses huge risks to land, water and our climate, plus many farmers and Traditional Owners are saying they don’t want fracking on their land.
Labor shouldn’t be wasting our hard earned dollars on multinational gas giants that pay virtually no royalties and that dodge tax.
I’m asking Labor to rule out public funding for gas pipelines, and to prioritise investment in agricultural infrastructure, renewable energy and supporting manufacturing to switch away from polluting gas.

You can look up Labour or individual MP email & put concern in email or even write a letter as they need reply. They are very unlijely to change their minds & labour & Liberal have same policy like head & tail of same coin on coal on oil on gas & fracking. It is seen as a easy means to pay for projects within Australia. Labour woman on tv said coal till 2050 & Liberal also say coal to 2050 & i gaurantee they both expect gas & oil to at least thst time. NEED paper petition to Government in office with a few hundred thousand signatures to be tabled in Parliament to be recorded in Hansard for politicians to take a good hard look at this. Many towns closed and farms lost to coal and to gas fracking hence Shut the gate movement. Politicians indifferent.

I passed on my views about this disastrous plan and I will not be voting for Bill Shorten. The lady on the other end said she would pass this message on and that she’s had many calls about this issue.

I tried all four. Bill’s no is also Labor headquarters. I was asked to wait a couple of times and then cut off. With the other three I was able to speak. Tanya’s rep was very short in her answer but said she would pass it on. Jason’s and Chris’s reps were very reasonable. I am so angry/despairing that I found it hard to say what I wanted to. I have heard (ABC RN) that we have a huge potential of converting hydrogen to ammonia using solar electricity and piping the ammonia to ports to transport to South Korea and Japan (both are very keen to use hydrogen energy) so I suggested we could use pipelines for ammonia and NOT gas.

I gave my name and Suberb. MOSMAN NSW. Explained my grandfather was a founding member of Misc Workers Union. I WAS voting for labour because of their Climate change policy HOWEVER if they insist on gas pipeline policy and fracking I will NOT vote Labour. Naomi attempted to explain what they were doing – I said I was only interested in changing this police NOW.

I just rand Bill Shorten’s office and expressed my concern about his announcement to spent 1.5 billion on pipelines in northern Australia. I was immediately cut short by a spiel from a man about Labour’s ‘commitment’ to climate change action, ‘alongside building the pipelines’ for future ‘responsible’ gas industry (in around 2 years) that will be the responsibility of the relevant states. I told him that was stupid reasoning, and that I would no longer vote Labour, as I have mostly have, because of Shorten’s lack of responsibility to consider the consequences of building the pipelines, and his lack of respect for the intelligence of Australian people. I said Shorten needs to act, not talk about acting, to mitigate climate change.

I called Bill Shorten’s office and they assured me that this pipeline had nothing to do with fracking … oh sure. Naomi in office advised me how good their new environmental policies are. Well yes, they are much better than Liberals, but not good enough. Need to get more Greens in. I called Jason Clare’s office and they advised me I needed to put it into writing. Tanya plibersek’s staffer said he would pass along my concerns.

Was told the pipeline isn’t for any specific project. So what’s it for? I said it enables projects already planned.

I made the calls, telling them all that this is a vote-changer for me. As well as objecting to fracking (and Adani), went on to say it is high time Labor learned to discern between any old “job” and one that wrecks the water table and threatens other jobs. Everyone was polite, although Tania Plibersek’s office took me up on the jobs comment. Easier to call than I anticipated and I would recommend taking this action.

Got through to Shorten’s campaign office (61200800). They’re prepared. Got the spiel about this is only for the pipeline, actual fracking is regulated by the states (but federal export powers!), Labor will strengthen EPA regulations on environmental impacts and fugitive emissions, and they’ve promised $1b for pumped hydro, loads for battery stuff, EVs, 50% renewables by 2030.

They all said they were happy to pass on my comments. I focused on climate change. Bill Shortens office explained some of their climate change policies, saying they were strong — I disagreed. Also, apparently the funding is just for gas pipelines, not fracking.

Told them, in this case I won’t vote for Labour and I will convince other not to do so.

They said that the pipelines wouldn’t be a back door for fracking per se because they are also setting up stronger environmental laws. It sounded reasonable.

Called Bill Shorten at 1.19pm 24 April 2019. the line disconnected referring to the website.

I then called Tanya Plibersek and left this message. "Strongly opposed to use of tax payer funds for gas pipelines from the NT. Strongly opposed to unconventional gas and its destruction of the integrity of groundwater aquifers and their possible pollution. Tax payer money should be spent on water pipelines and water infrastructure. Not to mention the bigger picture which is climate change. Strongly opposed to any unconventional gas in Australia. I was told that they were receiving many calls of concern about this issue.

I then called Chris Bowen’s office and expressed the same and was told that Labour would not change its position on this policy. I then said I would do all I could to convince people not to vote labour if they continued this policy.

Just rang Bill Shorten’s office and spoke to Naomi. She said the funding announcement was not related to franking, only pipelines! I advised her I want to vote Labour, but cannot do so if labour support fracking or Adani. I am not comfortable with this decision by Labour and would like my concerns noted

called Tania Plibersek’s office, spoke to Rebecca. Told her Shorten is making it impossible to vote for Labour as he has made 2 regrettable announcements this week – casual workers being offered permanent employment, and worst of all, funding fracking in a continent that is so dry and relies on clean ground water so heavily. “We’ll pass it on”. It’s a pity as the Liberal party is just as pathetic on climate issues, and tania Plibersek is a good local member.
