Shorten’s Wild Fracking Spree – Call Labor MP's

Bill Shorten announced this week he’ll spend $1.5 billion of public money on pipelines to open northern Australia up to fracking and gas.

It’s a disastrous move that would see our hard earned taxpayer dollars being handed to multinational gas giants, putting our water and our climate at risk.

Can you call Shorten and other key Labor MP's and tell them what a terrible move this is?

Fracking poses huge risks to land, water and our climate, plus many farmers and Traditional Owners are saying they don’t want fracking on their land.
Labor shouldn’t be wasting our hard earned dollars on multinational gas giants that pay virtually no royalties and that dodge tax.
I’m asking Labor to rule out public funding for gas pipelines, and to prioritise investment in agricultural infrastructure, renewable energy and supporting manufacturing to switch away from polluting gas.

I called Bill Shorten’s office to voice my disbelief on his support of fracking. I then called Jason Clare’s office as he is the Shadow Resources Minister and was informed his office accep0ted calls on local issues only. I would have thought fracking would come under a Resources Minister’s portfolio. The person who took the call did state she would pass the message on.

I called Bill Shorten’s number, informing the person who answered the call that I am a traditional Labor voter & due to the hypocrisy of his statement on fracking whilst spinning his stance on electric cars & how important environmental issues are to his government Labor has now lost my vote. I was informed many voters had called to voice their concerns concerning fracking. What a bloody insipid hypocrite. Listening to Bill shorten is like watching a Danoz Direct advertisement. Fake, insipid and nothing like the fiery unionist Bill Shorten we once knew.

Phoned all 4 offices and got the same response: “I’ll pass on your concerns.”

Told them our electorate (Newcastle) is a safe ALP seat and we are very happy with Sharyn Claydon our local rep.

But told them that we did not feel comfortable supporting the ALP in the Senate due to issues of trust on the environment.

Gas pipeline and Adani were the two issues I raised with them. More feedback from Bill Shorten’s office on policy, but just listening to my rant and a promise to pass the message on from the other three.

I think the leverage of not supporting the ALP in the Senate should carry more weight in seats with a safe ALP majority.

Look I don’t see the point in making a call too easily ignored or placated! Better to send a written submission because it forces them to write something solid. As for paying the rich again to make more money at our and the environments expense I can’t believe Labor would do this! Are you sure this isn’t a Liberal initiative? What’s the matter with Shorten has he lost it or something?

Naomi at Bills office said she would pass it on, but did not care to write down my name and phone number. I asked if she had a list of numbers of people that had called about the issue and she did not want to answer the question so I guess that she does not.

I will call the rest of them with the same message and questions.

Only rang Naomi at Bill’s office. She said Federal Labor has no plans to frack but will support gas mining and pipelines. But did qualify that there are differences between federal and state governments re fracking. Also said the party accepts that gas is a fossil fuel but only regards it as a transitional power source. She assured me Labor will toughen up all environmental laws. I gave her my view that we are rapidly approaching the tipping point as regards Climate Change which is already happening. I also said that if projects like Adani go ahead no one will trust Labor on the environment again.

I rang all 4 numbers .Bill Shortens phone was engaged on several occasions .Both Chris Bowens and Jason Clares office answered and I received the usual "I will pass it on "

.i am wondering now if they are getting so many calls that the receptionist is so desensitised that automatically they reply "I will pass it on " but Labour needs to know it is and will keep loosing voters at a rapid rate

Naomi at Bill Shorten’s office (? she answered my call with “Australian Labor Party”) listened to what I said politely and attentively, told me about Labor’s commitment to addressing climate change and rewriting environmental laws, and said she will pass on my concern about public funding for gas pipelines.

Dear Lock the gate. Phone calls to Govt department’s are Less effective than written emails. You should have attached an email link with a pre-written draft that people may then amend or just send. Many more would engage this way. Look at Market Forces for a better method.

I mostly had to record my messages and told them that I am wanting Labor to do more about positive climate action as well as conveying my disappointment about their support for the pipeline and other policies. Bill Shortens office answered my call and expressed their regrets after I told them I was not going to vote Labor for the above reasons.

Phoned Chris Bowen’s office told him I was raised on the land had family on the land & gas fracking the most disgusting thing invented, it ruined good farming land ruined our underground aquifers, our creeks & our river’s. Said I would not vote for the LNP I was going to vote Labor but now may be forced to vote independent. He was then in a hurry to hang up but said he would pass my message on.

Couldn’t get through to Shorten, but got through to the other 3. I calmly expressed how disappointed I was about Labor’s decision to invest public money in pipelines. I jus got polite disinterest basically, which is what I expected really. But good to let them know.

I’m absolutely appalled by the lack of leadership on climate change – the most important issue of our time! So angry.

Call was received politely, with a promise to pass the message on. Bill Shorten’s number was unobtainable. I spoke with offices of Tanya Plibersek, Jason Clare and Chris Bowen, asking that no pipe line or new fossil fuel projects be undertaken; spend the money on renewable energy, where there a many thousands of jobs to create.

Shorten’s and Plibersek’s office said they’d record my call and feedback to the reps. So upset by the news of this pipeline and gas fracking.

Where is good leadership in environment and well-being in this country? The two main parties are both tied up with the fossil fuel industries.

We need renewables and to not pollute our waterways and agricultural lands. We need habitat to preserve biodiversity.

Bill shortens office wouldn’t even answer my call,or take a message, Tanya Plibersek was away in Melbourne but her staff took my call and told me that they are listening to the science and will meet their targets and I told him what I thought of that information as I am an environmental scientist and know the truth.

I called Tanya P’s office and Christine there told me the announcement was not about $1.5 bn going to Adani. This money is only or a northern Australia development fund and she confirmed that NO public money is going to Adani. Seems this announcement is misleading.

Or…

Yes, it is for developing infrastructure in the north, other than for Adani, yet it could indirectly facilitate Adani in some way.

Either way, we do have be alert and mayge the Greens have it for me. Or independents with a policy that is not ambiguous.

We need to state our WILL, not our wish, concerns, requests or opinions. They are there to serve the WILL of the people, us. State what we WILL them to do for us!

I rang all the numbers. They respectfully listened to my very firm blurb. I told them that my family and myself are normally loyal Labor supporters but will now vote Greens / Independent.

Labor is not the party for serious action on climate change. Why is the gas pipe money not going into renewables? And the tiptoeing around Adani, really. I gave them a “respectful” earful. By the end of the calls I got quite fired up. Our politicians need to “Ardern up”!

Cane, at Tanya Pilbersek’s office was very polite, assuring me this policy wont overturn State govs authority, the funds are to ensure ongoing commitment to emission reductions, stating that gas will play a major role in helping to meet the targets. Cane also stated Labor leads (other parties) in their commitment!… blah blah blah, I think he had a script too! I reiterated I was against all fracking.

I haven’t bothered calling any of these pollies. They don’t really care about my opinion (or yours).

I did however call the ABC and Channel 9 (the first in a potentially vain attempt to get some investigation and coverage, the second for lols)
