Late last night Environment Minister Plibersek approved three thermal coal mine expansions that will turbocharge the climate crisis by locking in 1.5 billion tonnes of carbon pollution - this is more than three times Australia’s total annual emissions.
The Narrabri Underground expansion will clear 500 hectares of Koala habitat, damage Gomeroi cultural heritage and risk the Great Artesian Basin, and the Mt Pleasant project in the Hunter Valley is the biggest coal project approved in NSW to date.
Right now, we need to make sure we expose Labor’s support for coal and stand up to protect Australians and our natural icons from worsening extreme weather events fueled by climate change.
Join one or both of these SNAP actions today to say: it’s time for Labor to STOP approving climate wrecking and koala-killing coal mines!
