Thanks for saving Bylong!

Please write a very short message, in your own words, to the Independent Planning Commission and the NSW Government for rejecting the risky Bylong coal mine.  Congratulate them for listening to the experts and protecting this incredible area for its rich soils, precious groundwater and unique heritage values. This means the historic Tarwyn Park property, the home of Natural Sequence Farming, will not be mined.

    Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you!!!

You have restored my faith in common sense and integrity within the Australian Government.

You have protected all of us from a situation that would destroy so much of this country and this planet and you have truly represented your people the way a great Government should.

I hope that your actions set a positive example for others to follow as well as send a clear message as to what is truly important.

    God Bless You All

I am lifted up that people have been heard, and people today on behalf of people of tomorrow, those not even born.

Thankyou for making a sound decision based on a much bigger picture, a much bigger issue, a world in which to live over the profit of one single company.

Thank you! After reading the SMH article about Sydney’s ground water ‘going missing’ because of long-wall mining, it is a relief to see that common sense has prevailed to save the things that can NOT be replicated by throwing money at the lack. Our children, and their children, will be grateful for this decision.

    Independent Planning Commission

    Many thanks.

A worthy decision that reflects local conditions. Putting aside wider issues, your decision is to be congratulated. I’m no longer a resident of the area where generations of my family went before me but you’ve listened to a wide range of research and views. I’m aware of the employment involved directly and indirectly, based on the central town of Mudgee but think it prudent that environmental and economic sustainability have been favoured by your deliberations.

    Thanks again,Steve Auld

Thank you for your decision to refuse permission for this coal mine to go ahead , in the Bylong Valley .

The seriousness of the need to protect water-tables , especially in N S W , would alone have warranted such a decision !

Thank you. I used to work not far from the the Bylong Valley. I find it hard to believe that anyone could consider it a suitable place for a coal mine.

I am writing to thank the Independent Planning Commission and NSW Government for their wise decision to block the Bylong coal mine. The viability of our groundwater and productive agricultural land are vital, and will only become more so with time as our population grows and climate changes. Hence, protecting places like the Bylong valley is paramount . This is a great demonstration that sound, evidence-based decisions are politically possible.

It is also important to send the message that mining of coal provides at best small, short-term benefits for the community while creating bigger long-term problems. Good long-term governance requires that industrial investment be redirected towards more sustainable enterprises.

I wish to thank and congratulate the IPC and the NSW Minister for Planning for rejecting the Bylong coal mine. It is a courageous and sensible step towards saving our planet from the catastrophic consequences of climate change and preserving this land for future generations. Thank you for listening to the scientific experts and not be influenced by the pressure of the fossil fuel industry. We need more of this in Australia right now.

What a joy to be writing to you at Independent Planning Commission and the NSW Govt for rejecting a coal mine. Our groups fight day and night to protect water, land, air and indigenous communities rights. Thank you for listening to the experts and giving full protection to the area with its wealth of soil for growth, invaluable groundwater and the home of Natural Sequence farming. I trust you will all share this news with those assessing countless other coal mines and CSG projects around the country and a trend in this country moving away from fossil fuels will begin in earnest. Well done!

Thank you for your wise decision. Farming communities like mine across NSW can take heart from your decision clearly based on listening to the scientists and other experts. Protecting areas of productive land, fertile soils and precious groundwater for the future is so important as food production becomes a serious concern with climate destabilisation and we deal with the urgent need to reduce carbon emissions.
