Thanks for saving Bylong!

Please write a very short message, in your own words, to the Independent Planning Commission and the NSW Government for rejecting the risky Bylong coal mine.  Congratulate them for listening to the experts and protecting this incredible area for its rich soils, precious groundwater and unique heritage values. This means the historic Tarwyn Park property, the home of Natural Sequence Farming, will not be mined.

Thank goodness some common sense for a change. It would be madness to open another coal mine, threatening our water, biota and planet Earth.

Thank you for a great decision for future generations. Thank you for your rational thought process and believing in the principle of inter-generational equity and that it would contribute to climate change.

Thank you for this vitally important decision! I work in the Hunter Valley coal Industry and it would have been a travesty to destroy the Bylong Valley as they have in the Hunter.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your Commission’s decision to use real world criteria like intergenerational equity and for taking into account the long-term productivity of agricultural soils. I look forward to the NSW Government applying such criteria more widely in its decision making on developments.

Thanks so much for saving the Bylong valley from coal mining. New science and technology have done much for us but they haven’t yet provided a substitute for clean fresh water.

Thank you for deciding to reject the By long Valley coal mining proposal. As the father of two teenage children, I am especially pleased that your decision included consideration of intergenerational equity and climate impacts, and I hope future fossil fuel projects will be assessed stringently against those criteria.

I feel a deep appreciation for your decision regarding the proposed coal mine in Bylong. It is a wise decision given the irreplaceable soils and groundwater and it offers protection for Tarwyn Park , which may well be a template for future land use.

    What a wonderful day.

This is one of the few occasions when money is not king. Where our future becomes more important than the short term thrill of a few dollars in our pockets.

Put a stake in the ground and protect this moment. You can be sure there is some legislation on its way to make this decision harder in the future.

To the Independent Planning Commission and NSW Government. The refusal of the disastrous Bylong mine is a win for the whole of Australia. Korea now not set to profit from the destruction of the great land that is Australia. Why destroy our country for the benefit of others who dismiss vast and irreversible damage to Australia as unimportant? Some faith has been restored. Truly a brave and landmark moment. Please keep the momentum and trajectory moving away from dirty coal energy.
