Yancoal is planning to expand its dirty Moolarben coal mine, right into Mudgee’s koala heartland, on the border of the Munghorn Gap Nature Reserve, one of the oldest conservation reserves in NSW. Breeding koala populations have been recorded right near where Yancoal wants to stick one of its coal pits.
We’re at a critical point right now to stand with Wollar and push back against the expansion of Moolaben, so we hope you'll join the film screening and info-session this January 28 to hear the story of Wollar and learn how you can get involved.
'Voices for the Valley' is a powerful short documentary, created by 19 year old filmmaker Jess Nipperess that tells the story of Wollar and the Mudgee region, where locals have spent over two decades resisting the devastating impacts of coal mining.
Told through the personal lens of Manjot Kaur - a young person from Mudgee with Punjabi heritage — a region in India already facing deep climate impacts — the film weaves together stories from long-time residents, young people, and migrant voices.
It is a story grounded in community, culture and resilience, and a reminder that the fight for climate justice is intergenerational and both local and global.
Tea, coffee and light dinner provided.
