Our water, Our Lifeblood: Mackay

Our water, Our Lifeblood: Regional Roadshow comes to Mackay!

Water is the lifeblood of Queensland. Regional and farming communities work hard to put food on our dinner table every week -- and they rely on clean water for their survival.

Yet, if built, Adani’s proposed Carmichael coal mine would drain an estimated 270 billion litres of Queensland’s groundwater over the 60 year life of the project.

When more than two thirds of Queensland is suffering from drought, we need to ask ourselves -- what are the real, long term impacts of Adani’s mine on our communities? And how can we ensure our precious water resources are protected for generations to come?

Don’t miss this opportunity to hear from farmers and graziers, and experts in water management about how Adani’s coal mine will impact Queensland’s lifeblood.

WHAT: Public Forum on the impacts of the Adani mine on Queensland’s water hosted by the Lock The Gate Alliance.

WHERE: Iona West Uniting Church Hall, 7 Brooks St, West Mackay

WHEN: Thursday 12th April, 6pm for tea/coffee. Kick off at 6.30. Finish at 8.00pm

Speakers include eminent water expert Tom Crothers, former General Manager of Water Allocation and Planning with the Queensland Government, and author of the Report “Draining the Lifeblood” about groundwater risks of the proposed Galilee Basin coal mines.

More speakers announced shortly.

There will be time for questions and discussion after a short panel.
