My husband James Wright and I have been involved with the Lock the Gate movement in the Northern Territory for the past 5 years. I only hope that one day, sense will prevail and the Australian governments will pull their hands out of their pockets and say, enough is enough, no more, fracking is KILLING our planet. A: Dear Wendy – congratulations on receiving the Goldman Environmental Prize. When I listened to your acceptance speech I felt very emotional. We live in the Capertee Valley and have been trying to stop the DA for expansion from Airly Mine – trying to understand “Mine Speak” reading the daunting thick Environmental Impact Statements, and generally trying to learn an exhausting new language. I am 64, and I found your speech, at 83, incredibly inspiring- to keep trying to understand the processes where we as food producers and long time residents can be effective, keep writing submissions, signing petitions, and attending those CCC meetings…. In short, keep on keeping on! Thank you!

A: Congratulations on holding out against the big mining companies. I recently visited the Hunter Valley as was totally shocked about what has been done to it in the last 20 years!! The smell of coal hangs in the air miles away from the actual mines!! Thank you for all you have done to stop yet another mine. I am they tried to temp you to take the money and retire, but I find you integrity and persistence very inspiring! Wishing you and all in the Hunter good health and happiness.
