With Whitehaven’s upcoming AGM, local farmers and Gomeroi people are gathering to show their opposition to this destructive mining company from expanding their coal mines and opening a new coal mine in Vickery.
Whitehaven Coal have stolen billions of litres of water, been found guilty or investigated for breaches of the law on 35 occasions, and have destroyed Gomeroi cultural heritage.
We know their coal mines are bad news for water, for culture and for our climate and no bank or government should be lending to or supporting their destructive practices.
Because mining poses a risk to agriculture in our region, we’re going to be bringing along home-baked scones to share. You’d have to be off your scone to keep building coal mines at this time, in this place.
That’s why we’re gathering outside their Gunnedah offices on Weds 27 October to call on them to drop their expansion plans and call on Australian banks not to fund them.
