Queensland has a longstanding history of exporting carbon pollution to the world, primarily in the form of coal extracted from its mines. The carbon emissions contained in this exported coal is around four times more than Queensland’s domestic emissions annually. However, as we bring in much needed policies to reduce emissions from other sectors within Queensland, coal mines are going to contribute an increasing proportion of our domestic emissions with a major part of these emissions being from fugitive methane
emissions.
