Battle for Berrima's 13000+ petition to be handed to NSW Government on Thursday 19th April, 2018
Battle for Berrima from the Southern Highlands has gathered a petition in excess of 13,000 signatures calling for the protection of precious water resources in the Sydney Water Catchment. The petition also calls for a Parliamentary Inquiry into the risks of current and proposed coal-mining activities on water quality, supply and safety.
The petition has exceeded the 10,000 minimum required to trigger a debate in the NSW Parliament and will be handed to NSW Cabinet Minister and Southern Highlands local MP Pru Goward on Thursday, 19th April at 10.00am at 52 Martin Place in Sydney. Once presented to Pru Goward, the delegation with then walk to NSW Parliament House to table the petition.
"This is yet another overwhelming demonstration of people power and shows the depth of opposition to current and future coal mining in the Sydney Water Catchment”, said Battle for Berrima President Ken Wilson.
“Thousands of voters are calling on our elected representatives to stand up and be counted when it comes to protecting irreplaceable assets such as the Sydney Water Catchment on which millions of people rely."
