New Bulga - Martin Place

After a six year struggle to save their town from the Warkworth coal mine, Bulga residents are travelling to Sydney to set up New Bulga - a new village to replace the historic Hunter Valley community that Rio and the government have set out to extinguish.

After spending Sunday in the Domain, the New Bulga demonstration will set up at 52 Martin Place on Monday August 8th. This is right outside the office block that Premier Mike Baird and Planning Minister Rob Stokes work in. We need to remind them that real humans, real communities are paying the price for this government's addiction to coal.

We'd love you to join us.

Here we go, creating our very own refugees in the once green and pleasant Hunter Valley. The seemingly benign, thinking Premier we thought we had, to replace the sadly forgetful Barry has, yet again shown himself to be as despotic and insensitive as so many of his colleagues on the right, or should I say ‘in the wrong’?
At a time when virtually every thoughtful, scientifically literate person knows that that the future of coal, and of those who invest in its extraction, is so very parlous, CRA has been licensed to dispossess and displace the people of this small, but undoubtedly vibrant community, just to extend the wanton damage already done to this sorry valley, and the planet we call home. I hope someone got a few cases of Grange for this.
Shame Premier, shame! Coal may yet make refugees of us all.
Doug Nicholas, in the name of sanity.
