Lock the Gate Alliance National Coordinator Ellen Roberts said, “This report confirms what we’ve always feared – that Adani’s Carmichael coal mine poses a severe threat to the unique and nationally significant Doongmabulla Springs wetland.
“This research on the risks to the springs should have been done many years ago, and it’s appalling that Queensland and Federal governments both approved the mine without properly understanding the threats to this extraordinary spring system.
“If governments had listened to the many, many well-qualified experts who warned them of exactly this impact, we wouldn’t now be in this situation.
"The Palaszczuk Government must right this wrong and close down the Carmichael coal mine, pending an urgent investigation, and the Federal Government should consider revoking the approval.
“The Adani Carmichael coal mine is a climate wrecking monstrosity, built by a company that has been accused of the largest corporate con in history, and now we have the government admitting it threatens the lifeblood of a truly spectacular spring system."
