Winchester South would be Whitehaven Coal’s first foray into Queensland - producing 17 million tonnes of coal per year, while sucking 155 million litres of water from the area annually, for thirty years and beyond.
This destructive coal mine cannot be allowed to go ahead, so we’ve been writing submissions to the QLD government and are calling the office of the Coordinator General, demanding they say NO to the water guzzling, climate destroying Winchester South coal mine.
It’s the mine Queensland simply can’t afford. Will you join us to say ‘Stop’ to water stealers Whitehaven Coal?
On the day we’ll be saying ‘Wrong Way Go Back’ to the Queensland government and spelling out the words Stop Whitehaven Coal, and then walking to Whitehaven’s offices at Creek Street near Eagle Street Pier.
8:00am - 8:45am: Outside 1 William Street
Further action for those who can make it:
8:45am - 9:00am: Walking down to Whitehaven's offices at Creek Street
9:00am - 9:30am: Outside Whitehaven's office
