The Government wants to frack, but what does Australia want?

We’ve put together a letter you can sign below and add your ideas for the Federal Government on what they could do with our hard-earned tax dollars.

To Federal Parliamentarians, Ministers, Departments,

We are alarmed and disappointed to see the Federal Government now rolling out a suite of actions to prop up expensive and dangerous gas fracking across Australia without any proper public accountability.

As voters and concerned Australians, we ask that you hear our message - do not spend our money on gas fracking projects and big new gas pipelines.

Farmlands, water resources and the climate can’t afford to keep propping up polluting gas.

It’s time for Australia to grow stronger and tool up to embrace cleaner energy and storage.

There are a multitude of ways the Government could take a smarter approach to the Covid recovery. The Australian community has many ideas on how we can boost agriculture, tourism, First Nations opportunities, community health and disaster relief.

We know we can create jobs by genuinely supporting diverse Australian businesses, not throwing our money at the gas fracking industry.

We see huge opportunities to help Australia to get off polluting and expensive gas into the future, to modernise our power and heating and to save on gas and energy bills.

I ask that you oppose the measures being rolled out to fast-track gas fracking, including the ill-considered and secretive National Gas Infrastructure Plan, and take on board our ideas for how the money could be better spent.

Our land, air and water (including vital water tables) must be protected. Corporate greed should not be controlling government decision-making.

Please spend tax-payers money on projects that are good for the environment such as habitat renewal, renewable energy, battery storage and dealing with climate change.

It makes no sense to prop up fossil fuels that are becoming redundant, especially at the cost of good viable arable lands that will remain productive indefinitely. Investing in fracking, with its detrimental effect on the environment, is especially non-sensicle. Government funds should be used for the common good of both people and the environment. Supporting fracking is detrimental to both and an abuse of funds.

Fracking damages aquifers and the water table. Fracking must be banned. Nuclear energy needs Federal leadership urgently.

AGL got out of gas in the Gloucester Valley because of the harm demonstrated in a pilot fracking program and the consequent uneconomical nature of such a project. We desperately need money spent on the World Heritage Area in this region which is so neglected. These National Parks should be the centrepiece of the tourism endeavour for our region.

Parasite politicians really need to stop taking donated bribes in return for free $$$ spent in the wrong area. Perhaps spending money on education politicians might be better spent!

Gas is NOT a renewable source of energy. It is ridiculous to invest in it when it causes so much damage to the environment and will soon run out. Invest OUR money in something sensible, like more jobs in renewables and more research into storage of electricity. Gas is as dirty as coal.

I do believe that we need to take seriously the warming of the planet and do something drastic towards climate change. I also believe that we should not allow ourselves to be simply bought by rich companies without an deep thought as the the outcome. I also believe that we have much to learn from the indigenous peoples of our land about its protection for future generations.

I’d rather see this money spent on First Nations led programs to use the landscape as carbon sinks and create local jobs. Ways of doing this could be replanting forests, marine aquaculture, and restoring river systems. Public funds could also be used to support small scale, local farmers to plant trees on their land using direct seeding.

Don’t give money to the gas cartels, try supporting those living under the poverty line. Compassion, not corruption please.
