Where would you rather see our taxpayer money invested?

The Government wants to frack, but what does Australia want?

We’ve put together a letter you can sign below and add your ideas for the Federal Government on what they could do with our hard-earned tax dollars.

Please add your name and give us your ideas for where you’d rather see your tax dollars spent.

To Federal Parliamentarians, Ministers, Departments,

We are alarmed and disappointed to see the Federal Government now rolling out a suite of actions to prop up expensive and dangerous gas fracking across Australia without any proper public accountability.

As voters and concerned Australians, we ask that you hear our message - do not spend our money on gas fracking projects and big new gas pipelines.

Farmlands, water resources and the climate can’t afford to keep propping up polluting gas.

It’s time for Australia to grow stronger and tool up to embrace cleaner energy and storage.

There are a multitude of ways the Government could take a smarter approach to the Covid recovery. The Australian community has many ideas on how we can boost agriculture, tourism, First Nations opportunities, community health and disaster relief.

We know we can create jobs by genuinely supporting diverse Australian businesses, not throwing our money at the gas fracking industry.

We see huge opportunities to help Australia to get off polluting and expensive gas into the future, to modernise our power and heating and to save on gas and energy bills.

I ask that you oppose the measures being rolled out to fast-track gas fracking, including the ill-considered and secretive National Gas Infrastructure Plan, and take on board our ideas for how the money could be better spent.

Yours sincerely,

Please add some comments.

What would you rather see money spent on?

Here are some ideas:

Helping Australian businesses get off gas
Funding community projects in your neighbourhood
Land stewardship programs
Supporting First Nations organisations and businesses working on country
Renewable energy projects and battery storage
Disaster relief

Public money should be being spent on creating a more sustainable future for our children and the planet, not destroying it by continuing our reliance on fossil fuels.

With the catastrophic disasters experience – fires and now major flooding in NSW and QLD – our money will be needed for recovery and NOT fracking which will only exacerbate the delicate balance of our planet

There is numerous ways this money could be better spent!! Just please stop funding fossil fuel developments which are killing ours, and the rest of life on Earth’s chance of survival into the future!

I would like to see more money spent to transition away from fossil fuels. I don’t believe fracking should happen EVER. Read the Million Jobs Plan. It is full of ideas that need to be implemented NOW.

Get with the program Australia, we are behaving like dinosaurs, while the rest of the world does something.

Fracking is destroying our land, taxpayers money should be spent on helping farmer’s practice sustainable long-term solutions. Peter Andrews has a proven long-term solution that should be seriously considered.

Australia needs you to do your job and represent OUR interests, not the fossil fuel industry! We need strong transition to renewables right now! We need jobs to help our environment and to mitigate climate change effects.

It makes me so sad (and mad) that governments continue to put the natural world at risk. Our most important assets are our water and soil.

It is ridiculous to fund gas when we can fund renewables

Don’t frack Australian! Look after the land, water, animals, environment, and all people equally! It’s not that hard! Change is what is needed, less greed more responsibility for our future in this amazing planet we all call home. Please for our children, for all those without a voice who want to believe in humanity.

Put taxpayers’ money into renewables and electric cars, not into gas companies.

There are so many projects our citizens need before any funds are directed to fracking. For example:

Disaster relief, support for victims of violence (domestic), construction of temporary accommodation for homeless youth to name a few.

I would rather see our tax payer monies spent on renewable energy projects. Fracking destroys our environment, pollutes our precious water resources and poisons our valuable farmland. It is time for these environmentally destructive practices such as fracking and coal mining to stop.

I’d like to see taxpayer money used to actually invest in our environment. Better infrastructure in national parks. More jobs on country for First Nations people. More jobs for biologists working in government departments to actually document and study the plants and animals of this country, park rangers with job descriptions that include more than just issuing parking fines and emptying bins.

Stop fracking our future. Australia needs to stop supporting fossil fuels in any way, and that means stop any more exploration or expansion of current mines/wells now and phase out at least 95% of fossil fuels by 2030. Also stop all fossil fuel subsidies, including rebates and depletion allowances, and stop the farce of so-called carbon storage that is in fact used to extract more from old wells.

Stop poisoning our water or destroying it or gifting it to huge companies.

Ordinary Australians would get far more benefit (including jobs) from a program to upgrade energy efficiency in every home in Australia by 2030 plus community batteries and renewable energy and electric vehicle fast charging networks and electric buses plus more public housing.

Help every small business with energy efficiency and renewables.

    Start in regional Australia.

Fund regenerative farming and drought and flood resilience and revegetation, especially for smaller farmers in marginal areas.
