Where would you rather see our taxpayer money invested?

The Government wants to frack, but what does Australia want?

We’ve put together a letter you can sign below and add your ideas for the Federal Government on what they could do with our hard-earned tax dollars.

Please add your name and give us your ideas for where you’d rather see your tax dollars spent.

To Federal Parliamentarians, Ministers, Departments,

We are alarmed and disappointed to see the Federal Government now rolling out a suite of actions to prop up expensive and dangerous gas fracking across Australia without any proper public accountability.

As voters and concerned Australians, we ask that you hear our message - do not spend our money on gas fracking projects and big new gas pipelines.

Farmlands, water resources and the climate can’t afford to keep propping up polluting gas.

It’s time for Australia to grow stronger and tool up to embrace cleaner energy and storage.

There are a multitude of ways the Government could take a smarter approach to the Covid recovery. The Australian community has many ideas on how we can boost agriculture, tourism, First Nations opportunities, community health and disaster relief.

We know we can create jobs by genuinely supporting diverse Australian businesses, not throwing our money at the gas fracking industry.

We see huge opportunities to help Australia to get off polluting and expensive gas into the future, to modernise our power and heating and to save on gas and energy bills.

I ask that you oppose the measures being rolled out to fast-track gas fracking, including the ill-considered and secretive National Gas Infrastructure Plan, and take on board our ideas for how the money could be better spent.

Yours sincerely,

Please add some comments.

Here are some ideas:

Helping Australian businesses get off gas
Funding community projects in your neighbourhood
Land stewardship programs
Supporting First Nations organisations and businesses working on country
Renewable energy projects and battery storage
Disaster relief

Every flood releases fracking waste into our pristine rivers and aquifers

Propping up the gas industry only makes sense if the government puts its short term political aims in front of all other sensible considerations. Supporting an industry that damages the land, the water and the climate is neither just nor reasonable and it is my sincere hope that the voters will make this abundantly clear at the first opportunity.

As the gas industry employs only a very small percentage of the Australian workforce, tax payer money would be better spent improving the electricity network to accomodate MORE renewable energy, including through battery and other storage. Given the EU and others intend to take action to ensure that Australia and other countries that do not reduce their reliance on fossil fuels do not maintain any economic advantage, all Australian industry will suffer from the so-called “gas-led recovery.”

Quite apart from the unavoidable adverse environmental consequences, including unknown impacts on water aquifers, fracked gas is generally expensive gas. More fracking is not going to bring down the price of gas in Australia. During the changeover to renewals our government could, and should, reserve sufficient cheaper gas for the domestic market. The current situation where there are proposals to build gas import hubs as re-importing Australian gas from abroad is cheaper than buying gas from the current domestic market is just plain wrong. Fixing this should not be through building more soon-to-be-stranded gas assets.

Setting aside areas of outstanding remnant vegetation, particularly corridors for wildlife as “no-development zones”. Then preserving and managing them to maintain ecosystems with biodiverse heritage of Australia!!!! If not done, how can future people treasure truly Australian ecosystems? Preserve underground aquifers with no fracturing or fracking!!!

Australia belongs to the people, not the Government, and certainly not the corporations. Let’s spend our money on projects that benefit our Land.

No fracking But support First Nations organisations and business by gifting land so they can be working on country. Support elders of First Nations so that they can educate young ones in traditional ways. That will help to look after land

We are in a perfect position to become leaders in clean renewable energy. We must concentrate our resources toward this end. Be a shining example to the rest of the World…instead of limping along on old ideas and fracturing our already fragile land.

We need to focus on long term energy solutions that can be responsibly sourced and maintained. This can only be achieved with investment in solar and wind technology.
