Message the Premier - Acland Decision

Today, Acland farmers won the first ever community challenge against a coal project, the Acland Stage 3 expansion on the Darling Downs, in the High Court of Australia.

It’s a historic moment.

But it doesn’t mean the project is permanently beaten.  It means that it will now be sent back to the Queensland Land Court for a fresh review of the entire merits of the project.

The Premier has done the right thing, standing up to New Acland Coal and their advertising campaign, and waiting for the High Court decision.

Let’s thank her for that, and ask her to now finally end the uncertainty and negotiate the withdrawal of the mining project, whilst stepping in to support workers and the local community.

Leave a message for the Premier and Deputy Premier in the form at the bottom of this page and we’ll print them all out and present them with it.

Please thank them for what they have done so far to respect the High Court, but explain the effect on the local community has been too great and a restructuring package for workers and withdrawal of the project is needed.  The Darling Downs foodbowl is no place for a coal mine.

    Dear Premier,

Why are you not putting all your energy and that of your government in creating even more jobs via the renewable energy sector, why do we have to spend so much of our resources and your resources fighting for a dying technology!!?

Thank you Premier & Deputy Premier. Coal is on the way out. Food is here to stay. Please complete the process for future generations and you will be remembered for this achievement of conscience, not greed.

This is amazing news!! I am so happy that at last common sense for the environment and communities has won over the big corporations and mining giants. Please honour and respect the EDO and high court findings and decision for a positive future for country.

Now that the Acland community ( whats left of it) has succeeded with the help of Lock The Gate to save valuable farming land can’t you see there is no value in coal. So why don’t you stop Adani ripping up Queensland as well???Coal has no future, sustainable energy sources & renewables is the way to go.A premier with a vision of the future would not be giving Adani & his atrocious record for pollution & leaving the site in a deplorable mess , the go ahead to mine Queensland.

High court win, wonderful news. Why ruin one essential industry for the sake of coal which has to be phased out because it’s a fossil fuel? At last we are using common sense. Thankyou

There is no point in ruining our very important food bowl land by mining. Surely there are many places they can use rather that the fertile land. Of course jobs are important but again no use if their is less, expensive or poor quality food.

Queensland needs to find new industries: ones that do not tear our country apart and ruin the land for agriculture. Thank you for standing up to New Acland Coal and their advertising campaign, and waiting for the High Court decision. Now is time to finally end the uncertainty and negotiate the withdrawal of the mining project, whilst stepping in to support workers and the local community with a restructuring package for workers. This is fantastic news! We certainly do not need anymore coal mines now that we have renewable options.

Queensland is in an enviable position to be leaders in renewable energy – embrace the opportunity, Premier and ditch coal!

Thank you for what they have done so far to respect the High Court decision against the Acland Coalmine project.

However, it needs to be acknowledged that the ongoing effect of this drawn-out process on the local community has been too great and too stressful, and a restructuring package for workers and complete withdrawal of the project is needed.

The valuable Darling Downs food growing bowl is NO place for a coal mine.

    Dear Premier and Deputy Premier,

Thank you for your action, to date, to respect the High Court decision with regard to Acland Stage 3.

I understand that the effect on the local community has been enormous. However, what is now needed is a restructuring package for workers as well as a withdrawal of the project.

A food bowl such as our precious Darling Downs is no place for a coal mine.

You are an elected representative of the people therefore u are urged by the people to stop any and everything that damages or pollutes our lands and waters. Our Earth is in SERIOUS trouble. If you can not see this you are blind and stupid. Without our water and fertile lands we are doomed. The earth is being destroyed at a rate of knots and yet still our reps allow coal and fracking, which we KNOW causes serious damage to our environment, our waters and sea. The destruction MUST stop, it HAS TO STOP or there will b NO LIFE. Not for you or me or the next generation.

Thank you for awaiting the High Court decision on the Acland stage 3 expansion on the Darling Downs. Please support a full and fair review in the Queensland Land Court. You have witnessed the strength of feeling from this resilient community and support from far and wide. This form of ‘’development” is not appropriate in this Era of increasingly climate aware citizens. I urge you to support the community by delivering a restructuring package for this region to stabilise this vibrant and productive agriculture area.

Thank you Premier for waiting the outcome of the High Court decision. Please do not allow this farming land, water, health of the people and valuable jobs destroyed by this dangerous mine whatever the outcome. The Darling Downs Foodbowl must be protected for future survival of generations to ensure there will be enough food for everyone. The Acland Stage 3 expansion does not belong in the Darling Downs.

    Dear Premier,

We have before us a turning point to stop our decline into an unstainable world with the High Court of Australia’s decision against the Ackland mine expansion. Please legislate to protect one of our most valuable assets – our farmlands and those who farm it. In so doing your Government your Government will show the courage we all need to show to ensure a future for Mother Earth, we humans and our children.

Thank you for waiting for the High Court decision and NOT allowing the Acland mine to proceed. After today’s historic decision recognising the farmers’ right to protest the mine hopefully your government will start offering alternative sustainable jobs to the Acland community.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk, Thank you for holding fast despite the large amount of money spent by Acland Mine, and your respect for the process of the law in regard to the High Court. My concern is these farmers have been in limbo for too long and now need to get on with what they do best farming, their legal costs ongoing stress must have been overwhelming at times, but still they fought for their way of life, the protection of excellent farming land, and also the protection of valuable water resources. A restructuring package for workers and a withdrawal of the project should be put in place to further protect excellent farming land the Darling Downs Food Bowl known and recognized for it’s ability to grow quality food, and a short distance for transport to Brisbane. Thank you for your consideration and again holding fast in adversity is what makes you as Premier of Q.L.D far superior to our southern border. Yours sincerely Cheryl Kneipp

I demand that you protect the peoples food security and stop the incredulous notion that mining of any kind on or near any farming land is in Australias best interest. I hold you you the person accountable for any further damages incurred for your part in it’s destruction. You are being watched.
