The Government wants to frack, but what does Australia want?

We’ve put together a letter you can sign below and add your ideas for the Federal Government on what they could do with our hard-earned tax dollars.

To Federal Parliamentarians, Ministers, Departments,

We are alarmed and disappointed to see the Federal Government now rolling out a suite of actions to prop up expensive and dangerous gas fracking across Australia without any proper public accountability.

As voters and concerned Australians, we ask that you hear our message - do not spend our money on gas fracking projects and big new gas pipelines.

Farmlands, water resources and the climate can’t afford to keep propping up polluting gas.

It’s time for Australia to grow stronger and tool up to embrace cleaner energy and storage.

There are a multitude of ways the Government could take a smarter approach to the Covid recovery. The Australian community has many ideas on how we can boost agriculture, tourism, First Nations opportunities, community health and disaster relief.

We know we can create jobs by genuinely supporting diverse Australian businesses, not throwing our money at the gas fracking industry.

We see huge opportunities to help Australia to get off polluting and expensive gas into the future, to modernise our power and heating and to save on gas and energy bills.

I ask that you oppose the measures being rolled out to fast-track gas fracking, including the ill-considered and secretive National Gas Infrastructure Plan, and take on board our ideas for how the money could be better spent.

Don’t destroy with fracking, what can’t be replaced. Spend on renewable energy with battery storage.

For the love of god – leave something for future generations we haven’t completely destroyed. All politicians are mandated to watch the movie ‘Gaslands’ and then make a decision with some kind of conscience.

I would rather tax payers money be spent on public housing, industry powered by renewable energy, land stewardship programs, restoration programs, supporting First Nations rangers, organisations, businesses and traditional owners to live and work on country, renewable energy projects and battery storage.

Start with taxing the resources industries appropriately and you may find research in to renewables that much easier .. …

Also, not cool that environmental breaches by Adani and others are dealt with very lightly.

Cease vicious fuel reduction burns and listen to and employ Indigenous Peoples to lead traditional cool burns for healing of culture, country and all people.

Work on clean energy such as sunshine and solar storage. Don’t destroy our country and it’s most valuable resource which is water.

I want money spent on education and health, and care for the environment that sustains us. Not on this. Not on rewarding greedy people with mega profits; not on driving climate change faster till our planet crashes and burns. Not on this fracking thing. Not on gas.

We implore you to use this moment to ensure our economic safety through long-term investments in renewable infrastructure. Gas is a high-cost short-term project that doesn’t serve the majority of Australians and will have ongoing manifold negative effects for Australians living now and in the future. The National Gas Infrastructure Plan is an irresponsible use of our taxes, and demonstrates that your Government lacks vision and care for the citizens you are meant to be representing.

Don’t lock our country into a decade of high-emissions and backwards thinking.

There is a good reason smart counties have banned the Unconventional Gas Industry. It’s track record is appalling! It’s totally environmentally untenable, not to mention criminally irresponsible to risk the permanent contamination of our aquifers, agricultural productivity and food security. Then there’s the millions, yes, MILLIONS OF TONNES of methane emissions adding to dangerously accelerating Climate Change. So what the hell is wrong with you lot to be subsidizing a Gas led recovery when a sane, accountable & pragmatic government would be establishing global trade in the Renewables sector rather than continuing to drag us backwards? For once in your lives will you listen to the people you supposedly work for?

Australia does NOT WANT FRACKING OR COAL SEAM GAS! Have you seen the mess it’s made in the U.S? All those disreputable companies abandoning leaking wells & leaving billions of dollars in clean up bills to the tax payer? Don’t you care about your kids future? Because no-one with an ounce of accountability, credibility, integrity or responsibility would allow such a dangerous, deceitful & self serving industry loose in this country. How DARE YOU! How dare you care so little FOR OUR future. How dare you not do thorough research into the disastrous effects of Fracking & Coal Seam Gas. How dare you put your mates in the fossil fuel industry before the future resilience & well being of this country & the global community. I have never been more appalled by my government. Never more discouraged, disgusted, & ashamed. It’s time to grow up. Act on Climate Change, prepare for the future of the entire country not just your own & your mates.

With the planned alteration of existing legislation by the NT Govt. limiting the disemination of information to the public to the NT Government Web site, whilst ceasing the more easily distributed newsletters to voters letter boxes, will greatly reduce important information regarding planned fracking across the Northern Territory. This effectively means the public must access the NT Govt. web site each day to watch for information. The changes to the legislation does not pass “the pub test” … The NT Govt has already paid approximately $50 million AU to Fracking ventures in the NT for infrastructure! Fracking processes across the world have lost favour with fracking bans across many states in the USA, Europe and the UK . Victoria, New South Wales, ACT and South Australia have also banned fracking. In the case of the Northern Terrritory, there is a very high probability of contamination of the water table due to inadequate safety plan submitted by the NT Govt. Poisoning the Beetaloo aquifer will be irreversible!!
