The Government wants to frack, but what does Australia want?

We’ve put together a letter you can sign below and add your ideas for the Federal Government on what they could do with our hard-earned tax dollars.

To Federal Parliamentarians, Ministers, Departments,

We are alarmed and disappointed to see the Federal Government now rolling out a suite of actions to prop up expensive and dangerous gas fracking across Australia without any proper public accountability.

As voters and concerned Australians, we ask that you hear our message - do not spend our money on gas fracking projects and big new gas pipelines.

Farmlands, water resources and the climate can’t afford to keep propping up polluting gas.

It’s time for Australia to grow stronger and tool up to embrace cleaner energy and storage.

There are a multitude of ways the Government could take a smarter approach to the Covid recovery. The Australian community has many ideas on how we can boost agriculture, tourism, First Nations opportunities, community health and disaster relief.

We know we can create jobs by genuinely supporting diverse Australian businesses, not throwing our money at the gas fracking industry.

We see huge opportunities to help Australia to get off polluting and expensive gas into the future, to modernise our power and heating and to save on gas and energy bills.

I ask that you oppose the measures being rolled out to fast-track gas fracking, including the ill-considered and secretive National Gas Infrastructure Plan, and take on board our ideas for how the money could be better spent.

The money would be better spent on

– Infrastructure for Electric Cars.

– Supporting First Nations organisations and business projects.

– Renewable Energy and battery projects.

– Supporting retraining of Coal Mine Workers as the inevitable decline of Coal as a source of Energy is already taking place.

We need to move away from relying on fossil fuels, including gas.

Fracking is destructive and unnecessary.

Investment in renewable energy is beneficial to the environment and the economy. Jobs. Jobs. Jobs.

Fracking is proven to be a invasive and toxic form of mining for GAS. This has been proven in the USA and Queensland where the effects of flaring gas, emissions and water bores dying out or being contaminated by methane happen continually.

It’s not needed.

Australia has NO shortage of gas. We are the world’s largest producer of natural gas. We just have terrible contracts to ship all our gas overseas, to our own country’s detriment.

This shows very poor governance, and a very short sighted view towards the immediate future, and our childrens future to come.

Follow Victoria’s lead and place a full Ban on onshore unconventional gas/oil extraction.

Ban Fracking Australia wide NOW.

Use taxpayers monies for the greater good, not just to support the dying fossil fuel industry.

The corrupt governance must end now.

We claim to be a smart country, yet our governments do not look to the experiences overseas and see the damage that fracking has done to communities and the environments there. Fracking is dangerous to people, wildlife and environments. Funds should be put into more sustainable projects like wind, wave and solar energy; or building a pipeline from the Kimberley to the south of WA to bring water to communities . Perhaps funds could be put to fixing the Murray/Darling River systems to ensure the farmers and communities in the catchment have sufficient water needs to grow the crops and breed cattle, sheep, pigs etc to feed our country.

I cannot comprehend how you believe that fracking is a positive step when climate disasters are more apparent than ever. Not my government or PM.

We need solutions that plan for and protect our communities in a climate changed future. There are shovel ready projects in clean energy, particularly solar, that can support all of our communities into the long term. These are the projects our money should be going to, not the dying industries of gas, which threaten the futures of lands and people here and internationally.

I can see there is up to $50,000,000 available under the Australian Research Council Grants Scheme open now, specifically to accelerate exploration for shale gas in the Beetaloo Basin. This is a risky investment economically and environmentally. There are more sustainable economic investments that could be made in the region – renewable energy projects, carbon farming, environmental services – that would serve communities better, and future generations. Now is the time for fossil fuel companies to be looking at their exit plan. This is a waste of funds. Currently the government is putting millions of Australians into poverty, by bringing back down unemployment entitlements to below the poverty line, whilst you hand out millions to big business.
